Why Joyful Lactation? The Story Behind the Name.
Why the name Joyful Lactation?
In 2021, my life took turns I was not expecting. One of those was almost losing my marriage. It was quite eye opening and I realized that I wanted and needed to rely on God more. Five of my closest friends and I got together and started a weekly bible study- we chose to study James. Those few weeks are some of the most memorable of my life and I am thankful for each of those ladies in my life!
The Verses...
During our bible study, as I was reading for “week 2,” the first sentence was “Consider your trials as joy!”
That stopped me in my tracks! I pondered that sentence for a bit. And how all of the challenges I was facing at that time HAD to be used for good, right?! I needed hope and reassurance and God handed it to me on a silver platter! How thankful I was to receive that!
Here are the few verses that really inspired me: James 1,2-4: Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance if fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
What does this have to do with Joyful Lactation?
After I passed my certification, when I first started working as an IBCLC, I was contracting with another IBCLC and seeing clients through that practice. I knew that I wanted to create a prenatal breastfeeding class because that is what I wish I had when my first baby was born. I kept asking to create that and nothing happened.
So, I created it on my own. In 2024, I had my third baby. He was quite the contact napper for the first 3 months so during his naps, I created a prenatal breastfeeding course, while breastfeeding my own baby!
Once I went back to work after maternity leave, I launched my in-person course and it took off! I received such great feedback that I continue to offer that class today AND it has become an on-demand prenatal class.
Since this was my own creation, I had to create my own private practice…something I said I didn’t want to do, by the way!
Naming My Lactation Private Practice
I had zero idea what I would name my own lactation private practice. I did some googling, journaling, talking to my husband and craniosacral therapist and of course, lots of thinking and praying!
I wanted something that was inspirational, not only to me, but would be inspirational to the moms I would serve!
The word Joy kept coming to me but I didn’t know what do with it!
I wanted moms to find Joy in the Journey! After all, breastfeeding can be quite a joyful bonding experience with your baby!
THAT’S IT!!
Joyful Lactation!
And it was born!
Joyful Lactation became my private practice.
Thankful is an understatement!
When I created Joyful Lactation, I had no idea what it would become!
I also had no idea what challenges I would face being a business owner.
To this day, I still have to remind myself to find joy in the journey because, boy, it can be very challenging!
As a business owner, I have a village. I have support. I have my people! And I couldn’t do it without them!
This is just like being a postpartum mom! You deserve to have a village and support. And you deserve to find joy in your journey with your new baby! You just have to look for the Joy and trust that He will show it to you!
